Brazilians killed in mining pit cave-in

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Four Brazilian gold miners have killed and one injured when a mining pit caved in on them in Region Seven.

Details are sketchy about how the incident occurred. Police on Saturday stated that at about 5:55 PM Thursday Taigo Nunes Pinto, Ronaldo Da Silva Sousa, Joao Nelson Pinto Mands and Joao Gonsalves Martins were mining in a pit about 30-40ft deep at Arau Backdam, Eteringbang, when it caved and covered them.

The name of the injured man has been given as Jose Roberto Diaz. He has been taken to a city hospital.

The bodies and the injured man were flown to Georgetown Friday evening and taken to a city funeral parlour for autopsies to be performed.
