Sewerage pump station project progressing

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) on Tuesday said its upgrade of sewerage pump stations and the installation of delivery mains is progressing as planned.

The US$10 million project is being funded under the Government of Guyana/Inter-American Development Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP)

Rehabilitation works at Pump Station P at Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic and Pump Station W at Princess and High Streets have commenced. Installation works of large diameter HDPE force mains at Louisa Row will commence on August 17.

For the next three (3) months, rehabilitation works and the installation of delivery and force mains will be executed in the following streets:

·         Louisa Row (between Sussex and Hadfield Streets)

·         Sussex Street (between Louisa Row and John Streets)

·         Smythe Street (between Sussex and Croal Streets)

·         Wellington Street (between Croal and Church  Streets)

·         Waterloo Street (between Church and New Market Streets)

·         New Market Street (between Waterloo and Thomas Streets)

·         Thomas Street (between New Market and Middle Streets)

·         Middle Street (between Thomas and East Streets)

·         East Street (between New Market and Middle Streets)

·         New Market Street to junction of Light and Second Streets Albertown)

·         Light Street (between Second Street Albertown to Hadfield Street)

·         Hadfield Street (between Light  and Middle Streets)

·         Cooper Street Albouystown

·         Regent Street (between New Garden and Light Streets)

The utility company advised that customers residing in the aforementioned streets will experience minor traffic diversion, breaking of roads and noise associated with the use of heavy equipment.  The utility appealed to all customers for their patience and partnership during the execution of the GSIP.  The Programme will result in significantly minimizing sewage overflows and other problems associated with the sanitation system.

The Company expresses gratitude to customers of Georgetown for their continued partnership and apologizes for any inconvenience.  Customers with concerns or questions can contact GWI’s Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701/03/04 or e-mail customercallcentre@gwi.gy.  Customers can also post via social media atwww.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy
