Letter: Rohee slams ‘disrespectful’ Police Commissioner

FLASH BACK: Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud and PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee

Last Updated on Wednesday, 9 November 2016, 20:43 by Denis Chabrol

A car that was used by three  gun-toting bandits to escape with a quantity of valuables from former Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee’s house was Wednesday found abandoned on Croal Street, Georgetown.
Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage obtained, and “several latent prints” were uplifted from the house and the car.
No arrests have been made.

The robbery occurred at about 11 AM at Rohee’s residence located 6-7 “AA” Ixora Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara. There, two domestic workers, who were  the only occupants at the time of the incident, were assaulted and their hands and feet duct taped after they said they had no cash and valuables. “They allegedly assaulted the victims, bound their hands and feet with duct tape , took them to the upper flat, ransacked the rooms and escaped  with the valuables mentioned, in a waiting motor car bearing registration number PRR 514,” police said.

Investigators were told that the bandits invaded the two-flat house of the parliamentarian and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and carted off a quantity of gold jewellery, several wrist watches and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The female victims aged 28 and 52 years said they were in the lower flat of the building, when the suspects armed with handguns  entered an opened western door and demanded cash and jewellery to which they denied having,” investigators said.
