Ogle Airport needs an ambulance, says Labour Dept on explosion at Roraima Airways’ hangar

Last Updated on Friday, 7 October 2016, 12:41 by Denis Chabrol

The Guyana government has called on authorities of the Eugene F. Correia (Ogle) International Airport to acquire an ambulance, after a Roraima Airways aviation technician, who was badly injured in an explosion earlier this year  had to be transported in a car

The  recommendation is contained in a report by the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Social Protection that to Roraima Airways on Friday. The accident took place on June 20, 2016 at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport (Ogle).

According to the press statement issued by them on the matter, the ministry called upon the airport authority to take the necessary steps in ensuring that an efficient ambulance service is provided for at the airport. The statement continued that during the investigations it was found that in the absence of an ambulance service, the injured employee had to be transported to a city hospital in a private car, hence being exposed to the possibility of further injury. It said, the ministry is of the view that such a deficiency in the safety arrangements at the airport needs to be urgently addressed by airport authorities.

In relation to the root cause of the accident, the press statement said, “certain shortcomings were identified and it is expected that corrective actions will be taken immediately.
