Mr. Olato Sam is still on the job as Guyana’s Chief Education Officer, although the Ministry of Education announced earlier this month that he would have no longer been functioning in that capacity because his contract has ended
When contacted, Sam declined to comment on the matter.
Other sources said that since the announcement by the Ministry of Education on August 19, 2016 that Sam was no longer Chief Education Officer, he might be acting “under legal advisement.”
Calls to Mr. Sam’s office did not suggest that he was no longer working there, but that he was not in office.
In thanking the trained educator for his services, the Ministry of Education recognised his dedication and quality of duty. “Mr. Sam has served the sector with distinction and zeal for the past eight years, five of which he served as CEO. The Ministry wishes to thank Mr. Sam for his contributions to the Education Sector in Guyana and extends best wishes to him for all future endeavors.”
Prior to being appointed Chief Education Officer by the then People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) administration, he was Technical Advisor to then Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand.
