Dead is Ryan Vaux, 36 years, of Norton Street, Lodge, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

East Coast Demerara Divisional Commander, Marlon Chapman said the incident is being involved by the Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

Police said in a statement that at about 0110h. today Monday May 09, 2016, ranks of a mobile police patrol along Broad Street, Montrose, ECD, saw a man running behind a motor vehicle with registration PSS 6835 and shouting that he had been robbed of a sum of money by persons in the vehicle.

The police subsequently intercepted the motor vehicle, inside of which was the driver and another man in whose possession was found GYD$21,000.00.

The man and the robbery victim who has been identified as Deryck Persaud, 46 years, of Cummings Lodge, ECD, were placed into the police vehicle and the motor vehicle PSS 6835 was escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station. Deryck Persaud informed the police that he had been robbed by the two men who were armed with a handgun and a knife, police said.

“Upon arrival on the roadway in front of the Police Station and as the ranks approached the driver of PSS 6835 that was involved in the robbery, he brandished a firearm and drove off the vehicle in an attempt to escape during which the police discharged  a round that struck him to his body,” police added.

A pellet handgun was found in the motor car which had crashed in the vicinity of Vryheid’s Lust Access Road, ECD.

The other suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
