Trotman calls out Jagdeo over “disrespect” to Finance Minister

Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.

Last Updated on Thursday, 11 February 2016, 20:26 by Writer

Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman has called out the Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo over his absence at the presentation of Budget 2016.

Trotman making speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday declared that the move by Jagdeo to absent himself from the Opposition benches at the time of the presentation of the Budget by Finance Minister Winston Jordan is gross disrespect.

On January 29, when the Budget was presented Jagdeo was absent from the House but was present in the Public Buildings.

Only mere moments after Jordan concluded his presentation, Jagdeo proceeded to bash the Budget saying it was “anti-poor and anti-development.”

Trotman, a former Speaker stated that former Opposition Leaders Desmond Hoyte and President David Granger never demonstrated such disrespect to any Finance Minister of the PPP government.

The PPP was also chastised by the Minister for refusing to take up seats on State Boards.

He said that “disrespect [is] shown by not adhering to the Herdmanston process and not taking up the seats on State Boards.”
