Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guardsmen were Thursday night heading about 150 miles offshore Georgetown to French-registered yacht where a man and his dog were spotted dead aboard.
Senior security personnel said based on all available information, an ocean going vessel reported seeing the yacht adrift and alerted Guyanese authorities.
The Coast Guard received the information Tuesday and began processing it before deploying men to the vessel Thursday.
No estimated time of return to Georgetown with the ill-fated vessel was known.
The source said from all accounts Guyana was not the yacht’s intended destination.
