The owner of Red Dragon Night Club was Friday granted bail for allegedly trafficking in one Brazilian female.

Raymond “Clement’ Ali,61, of  15 Delhi Street, Prashad Nagar Selwyn “Selly” Lewis of Nutmeg Street, Festival City, Georgetown are accused of keeping a female juvenile for the purpose of exploitation. The female’s name is being withheld.

Lewis was not in court and  Ali was not required to plea because it is an indictable charge. The matter was heard in-camera away from the glare of the media.

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell granted Ali GUY$300,000 and ordered that he return to court on May 20.

Prosecutor Alexis David-Hossanah did not object to bail.

The Guyana Police Force said the duo was charged “following investigations conducted jointly between police officials from Guyana and Brazil.”

The United States has repeatedly stated that Guyana was not doing enough to combat Trafficking In Persons, regarded globally as a form of modern day slavery.

Using its own figures, the Guyana government has sought to prove to the contrary and has highlighted its public education and awareness campaigns.

The Guyana Women Miners Organisation (GWO) has in the not so distant past highlighted sexual exploitation and child labour mainly in the mining districts.
