Two gunmen were killed and two guns were recovered during a shootout at Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Divisional Police Commander, Clifton Hicken told Demerara Waves Online News that none of the men has been identified. One of the weapons is a 9MM handgun and the other is a .38 revolver.
Eyewitnesses said police were seen scampering around the area as shots rang out. The gunmen were also believed holed up in a ceiling in one of the buildings.
One eyewitness said the exchange of gunfire was reminiscent of a shootout between a man, who had gone berserk on Middle Street, Georgetown a couple of years ago, and police.
This operation comes as the Joint Services operation codenamed ‘Dragnet’ enters its second week. The operation is expected to last six months.
