Teixeira must have her info mixed up” – Felix pulls self out of scandal

Ms. Gail Teixeira

Last Updated on Wednesday, 18 November 2015, 23:26 by GxMedia

Gail Teixeira
Citizenship Minister and Former Commissioner of Police Winston Felix has denied being given information about a corruption scheme at the General Registrar Office (GRO) during the time that he was Police Commissioner.

It is understood that shortly after taking over the reigns of the Home Affairs Ministry from Ronald Gajraj, Gail Teixeira would have received information about a birth certificate racketeering scheme at the GRO.

The said information was passed on from the US officials. Demerara Waves understands that persons would acquire a Birth Cerificate under a fake name then proceed to acquire a passport using the fake name.

Teixeira at a press conference on Wednesday stated that “Americans brought me also fictitious marriage certificates…as a result of this, action was taken to have investigations and there were several police investigations under Mr. Felix as Commissioner of Police

The Former Home Affairs Minister claimed that recommendations were made for a number of persons from GRO to be charged and dismissed but Felix, chose not to act on the recommendations.

Felix however says he has no recollection of such information.

“I don’t any recollections, nine years after I have retired of anybody ever giving me any information about racketeering at GRO during the 2 and 1/12 period I was commission….Ms Teixeira must have had her information mixed up,” the Minister stated.
