President of the Guyana Bar Association, Attorney-at-Law Christopher Ram hands over a copy of the “Rights of Arrested Persons” to Commissioner Mr. Seelall Persaud (GPF photo)

Guyanese police and persons arrested are expected to be more readily aware of their rights because copies of the “Rights of Arrested Persons” will soon be posted up at police stations countrywide.

Laminated copies of the document were Wednesday September, 23, 2015 presented by the President of the Guyana Bar Association Mr. Christopher Ram to the Guyana Police Force.

“The Commissioner indicated that the documents will be placed at conspicuous locations in the Enquiries Office at Police Stations for the information of the public, and a reminder to police ranks a well, which will assist in the quality of service delivered to the public,” said the police force in a statement.

The presentation was made to the Commissioner of Police Mr. Seelall Persaud, DSM, in the presence of other senior officers of the Police Force, in the Commissioner’s Conference Room at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.

In handing over the documents Mr. Ram stated that the Guyana Bar Association is committed to the improvement of general conditions in Guyana including the ensuring that justice is better served.

He said the Association recognized the tremendous work being done by the Guyana Police Force and that it stood available for any necessary assistance.

In accepting the presentation, Commissioner Mr. Seelall Persaud noted that it resulted from an earlier positive engagement with the Bar Association and expressed gratitude for their delivering in a timely manner.
