Special Forces find no trace of missing woman in Kaieteur Falls gorge

Last Updated on Sunday, 6 September 2015, 1:47 by GxMedia

The team from the Special Forces of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), today (Saturday, September 5) continued the search to locate a female visitor who was reported missing at Kaieteur National Park (KNP) on Tuesday September 1, 2015, the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment.

As of 15:00 hrs this afternoon, reports indicate that the search of the gorge has ended, and no sighting was reported. The search was slow, due to the dangerous and extremely rugged terrain in the gorge below Kaieteur Falls.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) wishes to inform the general public that the Kaieteur National Park remains closed until further notice, as the investigation that is being led by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), with assistance from other agencies continues.

The DNRE of the Ministry of the Presidency says a review of the Park’s operation protocols is ongoing to ensure the continued safety of visitors to this magnificent site.

Updates on the search efforts and the operation of the Park will continue to be provided as they become available. The DNRE says it wishes to express our appreciation for the continued cooperation given by the general public.
