A Brazilian man was Wednesday arrested with several fake Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) cards, two of which he had used to withdraw money from a city commercial bank, the Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) , Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum confirmed.
Sources said moments after the man returned to make a second withdrawal, he was apprehended by the bank’s security guard and handed over to police. Blanhum would only say that the sums of money were very small.
The 31 year old man is expected to be arraigned on a fraud-related charge before weekend.
At the time of his arrest, he had four bogus ATM cards in his possession. Police said a search of his hotel room uncovered eight more cards and a machine that is used to swipe the cards.
In July 2015, a Colombian was arrested with 80 fake ATM cards several of which he had used to withdraw money from ATMs at several commercial banks across Georgetown.
Freddy Riveira Vargaswas charged with six counts of simple larceny.
