With GUY$500 million being plugged into the restoration of the nation’s capital by the PPP last year, the new government is injecting another $300million to boast the looks of Georgetown. This came from Finance Minister Winston Jordan’s 2015 budget, Monday August 10.

He said, “As proud Guyanese, we need to restore Georgetownto its pristine state. This will enhance the aesthetics of our capital befitting of our unique architecture of colonial buildings, tree lined avenues and canals that make it attractive to all who visit.”

To assist in the resuscitation of our capital city, we have allocated $300 million for the Georgetown Restoration Programme, encompassing an intense cleanup campaign, while enforcing laws on littering.”

This restoration sum comes from a government that severely criticized the former administration of injecting money into a cleanup project that did not encompass a study of the city layout and failed to address city problems such as drainage systems.

They claimed to that there was no maintenance plan to upkeep the cleaned areas. The most important aspect of the cleanup program, they had claimed, was a public education system which did not take place.

Despite the spending of a huge amount of cash on cleaning up the city by the former administration, the drainage system remains clogged.
