Indian nationals, who were barred from staying, leave Guyana

Guyana’s immigration authority was finally able to have eight Indian nationals, who were denied entry into the country, depart early Friday morning.

The men, it was reported were unable to provide adequate information on their place of accommodation and purpose for entering into the country and were thus disallowed. The Cheddi Jagan International Airport has said that the Indians arrived in Guyana on July 19, 2015 but were refused entry into the country for various immigration reasons and have been in the custody of the Guyana Police Force since then.

However, after arriving on Insel Air, they were placed on that very flight to return to where they came, but the pilot for that flight, refused to accept the additional claiming that there was no space on the aircraft. After much back and forth between authorities and flight officials, the aircraft was not allowed to depart and the flight was cancelled.

Demerara Waves was told Friday August 7, that the men were able to board the flight which departed at 06:45 this morning. A press release from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) had stated that the foreign nationals were kept in police custody during their time here.
