Veteran cricket statistician and insurance agent dies

Veteran insurance agent and cricket scorer, Ronald Legall died early Tuesday morning after a brief illness, his wife, Auvril, confirmed.

He was 72 years old.

Legall, who was an insurance agent with Demerara Mutual Life Assurance, passed away at the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital.

His terminal illness was only recently discovered by doctors.

Legall joined Demerara Mutual in May, 1966 and eventually became an Agency Manager. After he retired, he continued in the business as an Independent Agent.

Demerara Mutual Life’s Company Secretary,  James Morgan, remembers his colleague of more than 40 years as a friendly and humorous person who demonstrated his commitment and dedication to cultivating, building and maintaining needs-driven relationships with policyholders.”Mr. Legall was an individual that was very caring and very understanding of policyholders. He was one of those agents you could rely upon to do needs-selling. It is not something that you see these days. He always tried to understand what the customer wants and relate that to what they need,” said Morgan.

He was also a well-respected cricket scorer, having provided such services whenever regional and international matches were played in Guyana.

Legall is survived by his wife, three children and a number of siblings.
