One Communications’ internet services being restored, repairs to continue tonight

One Communications’, formerly GTT, Internet services were Wednesday evening being gradually restored as technicians prepared to repair a cut fibre-optic cable that is connected to the subsea cable, a company official said.

“We’re operating at a reduced capacity right now. While we have ensured that everybody is back up, the limited capacity means users may still experience a bit of slow internet speeds and buffering,” an official told Demerara Waves Online News.

Technicians are expected to fully restore affected services by 9 PM Wednesday.

The official said the system-wide disruption of fibre-optic Internet and mobile services went down after an agent of the new owners of a plot of land where the Central Radio Service was located cut the Internet cable while working on a drain.  That land stretches from Thomas Road to Carifesta Avenue.

One Communications apologised for the inconvenience and said it appreciated “your patience”. MMG and top-up services were also affected at a number of locations.
