Miami bar employee shot, police silent on injury

Last Updated on Monday, 23 February 2026, 17:10 by Writer

The head of security at Miami Bar on Robb Street, Georgetown was shot and injured early on Sunday morning in, what is being considered a “road rage” incident.

Sources said Omaly Ross, 30, sustained a gunshot wound to his lower hip. He underwent surgery to have the bullet removed and is conscious, according to sources.

The Guyana Police Force did not say that anyone was injured and also inaccurately stated that the incident occurred at 5 p.m. instead of 5 a.m., an eyewitness said.

Police only said they were investigating an alleged offence of discharging a loaded firearm with intent on Robb Street, Bourda, committed on two male individuals.

The shooter allegedly opened fire on the rear of the vehicle in which Mr Ross and another occupant were travelling.

At the time of the incident, the shooter was trying to park as the car which Mr Ross was in was gradually leaving, one of the sources said.

Investigators said the prime suspect – a 42-year-old businessman of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown – has since been arrested.

His name, given as initials S.B., has not been released.

Police said one 9mm Taurus pistol along with two magazines and 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in his possession.

A precept and firearm licence under the name of a transportation service were also produced, police said.

The firearm licence was examined and corresponded with the firearm found in his possession but it was not renewed for the year 2026.

Police also said a search was conducted at the premises, where a motor vehicle which was allegedly used in the incident was found parked in the yard.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Kitty Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged along with the motor vehicle pending investigation, police added.
