President meets with foreign relations, economics parliamentary committees

President Irfaan Ali is Tuesday morning scheduled to meet with the bipartisan parliamentary committee on foreign relations.

“I believe in working and letting everyone understand what we are doing at the policy level, so we will have those two meetings later this week,” he told a news conference on Monday.

The foreign relations committee, under the chairmanship of We Invest in Nationhood’s General Secretary Odessa Primus, is expected to meet with the Guyanese leader on Tuesday. The vice chairman is Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd.

The President would also on Wednesday meet with the economic services committee which is chaired by WIN’s Duarte Hetsberger. That body’s vice chairman is Public Works Minister Juan Edghill.

The Guyanese leader said the meetings are geared to update those two committees on what government is doing, the upcoming decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy, acceptance of deportees from the United States and other aspects of foreign policy. He also plans to update the economic services committee about Guyana’s mid-year economic review, tackling cost of living, “tailoring” inflation and grappling with the global energy and transportation crises. “It’s going to be broad, a broad agenda. Not it’s not going to be a structured agenda. It’s a broad agenda,” he said.
