A gold miner, John José Marciano, 55, of One Mile, Wismar, Linden was chopped to death early on Saturday morning at 14 Miles, Issano, Middle Mazaruni River, and a cook and a gold miner have since been arrested, police said.
The female cook, 35, is from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, and the gold miner, 19, is from Tapakuma, Essequibo Coast.
Police said the gold miner was arrested in Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Sunday at about 07:45 a.m. in connection with the alleged murder.
The Guyana Police Force did not say what exactly lead to the killing.
“The deceased was at his mining camp at 14 Miles Issano when an incident reportedly occurred during the early morning hours. He was subsequently discovered slouched on the ground within the mining camp with multiple chop wounds about his body,” police said.
A suspected murder weapon (cutlass) was recovered in close proximity to Marciano’s body.
