A 39-year-old auto body technician of La Grange, West Bank Demerara has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a woman in the same village on Tuesday night.
Investigators were informed that the 34-year-old self-employed woman of Dr Doctor was taken to a private medical facility, where she was admitted.
Police said the woman was at home at about 7 p.m. seated on her front veranda with family members, when an unidentified masked male, dressed in dark clothing and armed with a handgun, ran into the yard and attacked her.
Police said she was beaten several times after which she fled the house and ran into a neighbouring yard.
Investigators were also informed she was chased and struck to her back, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head and body.
Police said the man allegedly discharged two rounds in her direction before making good his escape.
A suspected 9mm spent shell was found and lodged.
CCTV footage captured in the vicinity is being extracted as part of the investigation, police added.
