Vendors around Yhip’s Bakery on Robb and Alexander streets were on Saturday issued a final warning to vacate that area in keeping with a High Court order prohibiting them from selling there, Town Clerk Candace Nelson said Saturday.
Ms Nelson said that already officers of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) had been cited for contempt of court.
In a public notice, the Town Clerk said the M&CC shall “execute” immediate steps to adhere to, fully, and enforce the Court’s Order.
“Failure to comply with this final notice will result in the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown, through its City Constabulary Department, taking enforcement action which will include removal of vending items and other actions as permitted by law,” she said.
The Town Clerk informed the public and “all vendors” operating around the property of Yhip’s Bakery that a court order has been issued by the High Court prohibiting vending immediately around the vicinity of that property.
Ms Nelson said a contempt proceeding was also filed in the High Court against specific officers of the M&CC.
Muneshwer’s, Queensway, Banks DIH and a number of other businesses in Georgetown have successfully removed vendors outside their premises through High Court orders that were enforced by the M&CC.
In a number of instances, the M&CC had sought to convince vendors that efforts were made to resolve those matters in their favour. In the end, the vendors were all removed by law enforcement agents.
Ms Nelson advised vendors operating around Yhip’s Bakery to obey previous notices issued and remove all structures, including carts, tables, and pallets, with immediate effect.
The Town Clerk asked all affected vendors to cooperate urgently to “avoid further legal consequences.”
