A two-year-old girl, who was staying with relatives at Grant Atlas, Lower Pomeroon River, drowned early Christmas morning, police said.
The body of Zoria Seegobin was found in a nearby trench, and investigators are treating the incident as a drowning.
The Guyana Police Force did not say if anyone was detained to assist with the “ongoing” investigation.
Police said the girl drowned between 2:15 am and 2:30 am Thursday.
“Initial enquiries revealed that the child had been staying with relatives at the said address for the Christmas holiday.
In the early hours of December 25, 2025 she was discovered missing from the home and was subsequently found submerged in a nearby trench,” police said.
Police said she was transported by relatives to Charity, where police escorted her to the Charity Cottage Hospital. She was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced her dead on arrival, police added.
The body was later taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
