A 48-year-old woman was arrested early Christmas Day shortly after she allegedly fatally stabbed her reputed husband at their home in Tuschen Phase 2, East Bank Essequibo, police said.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that 49-year-old Gavin Linden Melville, also known as “Doggie”, a labourer, and his reputed wife reportedly returned home after attending an event when an altercation ensued inside the residence. “During the incident, the male received a stab wound to the neck area,” police said.
Police said that upon arrival at the scene, they observed the victim lying motionless in the living room.
He was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was later taken to Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination, police said.
The woman was taken into police custody and then was escorted to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital where she was seen, examined and sent away, the police force said.
She remains in custody assisting with the investigation, police added.
