A policeman on Tuesday beat an unarmed street dweller with a coarse electrical wire on Main and Church streets in full view of the public.
When told that the act amounted to a violation of human rights because the street dweller was unarmed, one of the other policemen muttered “human rights? human rights?”
A civilian-dressed man objected to a Demerara Waves Online News journalist video recording the incident. “Ya’ll must stop with this videoing thing”.
When Demerara Waves Online News arrived on the scene, the street dweller was lying on his back as the policeman was lashing him several times.
The street dweller was allowed to leave the scene after the policeman realised he was being recorded.
A number of other policemen left the area quickly and walked through a couple of nearby stalls.
