Two persons have been detained as police on Tuesday continued their manhunt for the prime suspect in the killing of a man at Supply, Mahaica.
The victim had been identified as 36-year-old Ray Sheoraj, called “Redman”.
The incident occurred at about 11 o’clock on Monday night.
Searches are ongoing for the 62-year-old male suspect, who fled the scene shortly after the incident.
Two men who were present at the time of the altercation, both labourers, a 45-year-old of Belmont, Mahaica and a 38-year-old of Supply, Mahaica were detained and remain in police custody.
“Initial investigations indicate that the deceased was at his residence in the company of several individuals when an argument allegedly developed with a male relative who resides in the same yard.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly inflicted an injury to the deceased’s left leg with a sharp object,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
Investigators were told that Sheoraj attempted to secure the wound but later collapsed in the upper flat of the home.
He was subsequently taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police added.
A cutlass and a chopper suspected to have been used in the incident were recovered at the scene, secured and lodged as investigations continue, police added.
A female relative, a 29-year-old housewife of Supply, Mahaica who sustained a minor injury during the argument, is receiving medical attention.
The body has been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
