A chef, who lives in Georgetown, was caught in Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo) importing 10 dogs without the necessary permit, the Guyana Police Force said on Monday.
The woman, 40-year-old Elizabeth “Liza” Chung of Alberttown and Alexander Village, Georgetown was arrested on November 22 at the Bina Hill Police checkpoint in Region Nine after she was found importing the dogs without the necessary permit.
Police said she pleaded guilty to importing a terrestrial animal without a permit in violation of the 2011 Animal Health Act.
Lethem Magistrate Omadatt Chandan fined the woman GY$20,000 after the charge was read to her and she pleaded guilty.
