Guyanese police were up to Tuesday night hunting for at least 12 Venezuelan men in connection with the killing of a Venezuelan gold miner at Quartz Stone Backdam area of the Cuyuni River in Region 7.
Police said in a statement that 35-year-old Yosber Alberto Sojo’s body was found on a main access trail by police following a report.
Investigators said the incident occurred on Monday, October 6 when Alberto Sojo was confronted by the group of men.
“The men accused him (the victim) of theft and subsequently assaulted him,” police said.
The body is at Bartica awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police did not say whether there were any visible marks of violence on Alberto Sojo’s body.
