The People’s National Congress Reform’s (PNCR) Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Wednesday rubbished claims in sections of the public that there is an internal squabble over Mr Aubrey Norton remaining as leader after the coalition it leads suffered a devastating defeat in the September 1 general and regional elections.
“The CEC rejects any notion that there is trouble within the PNCR’s camp and assures the party’s membership that public grievances by a few persons will not defeat the Party’s reactivation of political will and resilience,” the party said in a late night statement following its first CEC meeting after the recent polls.
The PNCR also said that the Central Executive still backs Mr Norton as the party leader and that he would remain in office until next year’s congress which includes internal elections. “The CEC reaffirmed its complete confidence in the leadership of Aubrey C. Norton and supports his continued role as the Leader of the PNCR during the rebuilding process. The committee emphasised that its Leader can only be removed at a duly convened party congress, in accordance with the Party’s constitution,” the party said.
In apparent reference to the resignations of CEC members Mervyn Williams and Jermaine Figueira from the PNCR, that party confirmed the elevation of two new members to the CEC.” The PNCR did not name the replacements, but based on available results from the PNCR’s last internal elections, it appears as though the replacements are Christopher Jones who had won the 16th highest number of votes and Egerton David the 17th highest.
Messrs Jones and David would have to agree to become CEC members. If not, the search would have to continue from among those who had secured votes at the last congress.
