Less than 24 hours after a Wakenaam Island pensioner left his home to go to Supenaam to purchase engine parts, police said a video from a nearby house showed that he fell into the Supenaam Creek where his body was found on Monday morning.

Adil Ramjan Khan, 69, left his home on Sunday at about 11 am in a boat, equipped with a 40 horsepower (HP) outboard engine, for Supenaam for engine parts.

“The scene was further scrutinised and canvassed for CCTV cameras, and these were identified on a house opposite where the boat was moored. The camera footage was reviewed, which captured Khan falling into the water,” the Guyana Police Force said.

Police said they received a call at about 7:10 am Monday informing them that a body was floating in the Supenaam waterfront area in the vicinity of the farmers wharf.

The body was removed from the water, examined by detectives and blood was observed oozing from the ear, but police said “no marks of violence were seen on his body.”

Police said the body was later identified by bus driver 34-year-old Navindra Thomas of Wakenaam, as that of his father-in-law, Mr Khan.

Police said the body was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced it ‘dead on arrival’. Khan’s body was further escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Mr Thomas told investigators that after his father-in-law did not return on Sunday, at about 7:40 pm Sunday, he travelled to Supenaam in search of him. He said he saw his father-in-law’s boat moored at the Supenaam waterfront and his clothes were on the ground next to the stelling area leading to where the boat was moored.

As a result, Thomas went to the Aurora Police Station and made a missing person report, police said.
