Junior Anthony Greaves and the cocaine that was allegedly found in a box that belonged to him.

A Port Kaituma resident was on Sunday morning arrested in connection with the alleged discovery of approximately 11 kilogrammes of cocaine that he accompanied on a domestic flight to the Eugene F. Correia “Ogle” International Airport.

Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) customs officers, agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force were involved in arresting Junior Anthony Greaves after he allegedly refused to have his baggage searched and continued walking outside. The Customs Officer, shouted “Sir, Sir,” but Mr. Greaves ignored him and kept walking.”The interception of Junior Anthony Greaves resulted in the seizure of eleven (11) brick-like parcels containing a whitish powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine. The matter was formally transferred to the Police Narcotics Branch for continuation,” the official said.

Authorities also seized GY$743,000 and one cell phone.

Mr Greaves, of Port Kaituma Water Front, arrived at about 10:30 am at the airport in possession of one backpack and one brown box. After Mr Greaves, 44, continued, the Customs Officer, assisted by police and immigration officers, gave chase.

Officials said that as Mr. Greaves approached an Ogle taxi, he opened the vehicle door, dropped the box inside, and began running. The Customs Officer , according to the official, continued the pursuit, while the police and immigration ranks pursued in another taxi.
The box that was left in the taxi by Mr. Greaves was secured by other customs officers on duty and placed in the customs area. “Mr. Greaves was subsequently intercepted, at the Ogle Access Road/Main Road traffic light. He was escorted to the Customs area in a Customs Officer’s custody, with Police and Immigration ranks in attendance,” a senior official of one of the agencies said.
A CANU Officer , who observed the commotion from the front check-in scanner area, later joined the escort party. Searches conducted in the presence of CANU, police and GRA officials revealed that there were 11 brick-like parcels, five wrapped in black plastic and six wrapped in brown tape. Police made a small incision into one parcel, which revealed a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, the official said.
