WIN targeting APNU supporters- Norton

The leader and presidential candidate for the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR)-led A Partnership for National Unity, Aubrey Norton believes We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) is targeting his supporters.

Mr Norton flagged the concern Saturday night during an address at a public meeting at Ithaca, West Coast Berbice. “I hold no brief for Mohamed because he is more in our constituency than any other one so I get the impression sometimes he is working for the PPP (People’s Progressive Party) but I’m watching; I’m not commenting yet. I’m watching,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Charlestown, Georgetown, veteran PNCR member and APNU Councillor Gregory Fraser told a public meeting of just about 13 persons that they must be vigilant against vote-buying—a criminal offence punishable by a fine and two years imprisonment—by both WIN and the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) on September 1.

Mr Fraser also cautioned about the likelihood of WIN throwing its support behind the PPPC in the National Assembly. Similar concerns had been expressed by APNU vice presidential candidate, Ganesh Mahipaul.

WIN Leader Azruddin Mohamed earlier this month sought to reassure voters that his party would not be backing either APNU or PPPC.

The PNCR-APNU Leader recalled that the police had pr0vided outriders for Mr Mohamed’s Lamborghini tours across Guyana, the PPPC administration had used his vehicles after the 2020 elections, and Mr Mohamed’s father- Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed had said he had helped to provide armed security at the PPP’s Freedom House headquarters. “We’ve got to look and see. Now, suddenly this man is the worse man on earth. If he was bad, he was bad since with you so don’t come to us with nonsense,” he said.

Mr Norton said if APNU wins the upcoming polls, every Guyanese would be expected to obey the law.

The PPPC has been consistently warning supporters against being paid by WIN for their votes.
