Five persons were arrested in connection with the discovery of 16.784 kilogrammes of cocaine after two cars were intercepted at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said on Friday.
The quintet was arrested on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, based on information received, and they remained in custody as investigations continue, CANU said.
The “whitish powdery” substance that was in several parcels was tested positive for cocaine.
One of the detainees is Spanish-speaking, CANU Head James Singh told Demerara Waves Online News.
