Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Thursday overruled a no-case submission made by lawyers for Retired Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Slowe and called on him to lead a defence in relation to the offence of sexual assault, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said in a statement.
Mr Slowe was charged with on the 15 October 2021.
The Magistrate, according to the GPF, based her ruling that the prosecution had established, by evidence, a sufficient case against Mr Slowe.
The matter was adjourned to October 2025 for Mr Slowe to lead his defense.
The GPF recalled that the charge stemmed from a report made by a female officer that on three occasions in March and April 2019, at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, that the former officer allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Senior Police Legal Advisor and Attorney-at-Law Mr. Mandel Moore appeared on behalf of the Prosecution, while attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes, Dexter Todd and Dawn Cush appeared on behalf of Paul Slowe.
