The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) hailed the contributions of its former long-standing member, Amna Ally, who died on Saturday.
“Ms. Ally’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of PNCR and her nation has left an indelible mark on our history,” the PNCR said in a statement about the passing of the former party General Secretary.
Ms Ally was 69 years.
She passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation at 10:54 am. She was suffering from a heart ailment and chronic kidney disease.
The PNCR said her service to Guyana was “multifaceted” as a committed educator and valued member of the Young Socialists Movement (YSM), the then PNCR youth arm.
The PNCR recalled that she provided leadership and dedication beyond party activities as she served as a Member of Parliament and held the position of Minister in the Government under the APNU/AFC administration from 2015 to 2020.
“Throughout her life, Ms. Ally exemplified service, integrity, and patriotism. Her contributions have profoundly shaped our party and our country, and her legacy will continue to inspire us,” the party said.
The PNCR offered heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her.
President Irfaan Ali on Saturday paid tribute to the veteran politician.
“On behalf of the Government of Guyana and my family, I extend our heartfelt condolences”.
Dr Ali recognised Ally’s career as a parliamentarian dating back to 1985.
He said throughout her parliamentary career, Ms Ally held several positions, including Chairperson of the Social Services Committee and member of the Parliamentary Management Committee, Standing Orders Committee, and Appointive Committee. Additionally, she served as the Minister of Social Protection from 2015 to 2020.
General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Bharrat Jagdeo said Ms Ally’s “decades of public service and commitment to political life in Guyana will be remembered.”
