Trinidad and Tobago’s Energy Minister, Roodal Moonilal could soon be coming to Guyana to explore the possibility of processing this country’s natural gas, that country’s newly-elected Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Saturday.
“My minister of energy is mandated and instructed from day one, let’s explore the offer being made by Guyana to bring gas to Trinidad and Tobago,” she said in brief remarks after the swearing-in of her cabinet.
Her announcement came three weeks after Guyana’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo said that sending Guyana’s natural gas could be one of the options up for consideration.
She also announced that Mr Moonilal would be going to neighbouring Grenada on a fact-finding mission that could lead to the search for oil and gas offshore the Spice Isle.
“I intend to send my minister of energy to Grenada because I’m being told that Grenada offshore has more gas and oil than the Dragon field,” she said.
Her decision to turn to Grenada came almost one month after the United States announced that it would rescind its licences to BP and Shell to develop two cross-border gas fields with Venezuela.
The US’ decision to pull the licences are part of a series of sanctions on the Nicolás Maduro administration in Venezuela.
