OPINION: Charles Ramson, Jr. for president, not just yet

Who would have believed it, even when seeing it? Not I, sir. Who could have imagined this turn of events on the ground, which represents the unimaginable in Guyana? I wouldn’t have. Or is it the long denied, long gotten away with, is now in plain sight and can’t be disowned by anyone in the PPP? There is no benefit of the doubt left to give the PPP. I can’t. But here are Guyanese in March 2025, an election year. The PNC is now wearing the mantle of pacifist. In stark contrast, there is the PPP as aggressor and loving it, celebrating it.

I need to consult with those grizzled oldsters of the PPP: Ramotar, Rohee, and Ramkarran about how this can be. This warlike PPP, this basket case PPP in action today. Forget about Irfaan Ali, Bharrat Jagdeo, and Anil Nandlall. Of what good are they, other than their running blubber about free and fair elections, with Guyana as the model? Tell that to Mohamed the First. De maan ain’t even open he mout, and de PPP jump pun he with ‘sticks and bricks’. Unconfirmed reports are that they are still of the verbal variety. Hostile, without another word having to be said. Belligerent in the manner of Maduro, if not more so. Can this be the PPP that has been hailed for its practice of peace, prosperity, and progress? It depends on who is doing the hailing, and to whom those three ps have some meaning. Those three wise old owls (men) of the PPP, Rohee, Ramkarran, and Ramotar, will have some additional answering to do.

It is said that times change. How they do, and usually with strange twists. It is also said that history repeats itself, but as discovered long ago, it does, but with all the hidden warts and sores surfacing. The PPP has always held itself out as virginally pure, like one of those vestal ones that cluttered Rome’s sacred temples. What strikes the consciousness now is how this most resourceful of political groups has succeeded for so long in making damn fools out of the Guyanese people. The peaceful party is now the party that pounds away at its opponents. Who cares about undeclared! Strike the baby snake in the cradle before it becomes a monster of a serpent. It is why ancient emperors and conquerors made it their first duty to liquidate the males in the village overrun. Neutralize an emerging threat before it becomes a proven one. By the way, has any Guyanese seen or heard anything of the PNC lately?

I recall how the PNC of old used to target cameras and journalists at the scenes of its rampages. There were sound reasons for such priorities. No picture, no evidence. No media presence, no reporting. Neither truth seeking allowed nor truth telling possible. In the thinking of the PPP, all of that is small-time, the stuff of small potatoes by amateurs. Today, the PPP is so full of itself, so up to its neck in the nebulous and the corrosive that it doesn’t give a damn about the presence of phones, nor the reach of social media’s prying eyes, and the sweep of its coverage. Come into this neighborhood and get wagon fixed good and prapah. It is that raw, and filled with the menace of latent malice. Matters boil down to the special receptions now allegedly arranged on the Commanding Heights to welcome the Mohameds. To ensure everyone is on level ground, who else could I be sharing about in this context, though I have my own stories to tell about the ugly, dirty PPP from the dark side? Before it was PNC this and PNC that, what is now shifted to the backburner to deal with a likely vote stealer/grabber. Mohamed here and Mohamed there. Cripes! This is shaping up to be more than a struggle. I foresee big trouble.

This is what is gauged from the PPP side of business. Come into our town and be ready to rumble, and the most immediate, uncivilized expulsion. Feet first or headfirst, there is that dreadful Hobson’s choice. I think that there can be some identification now with how those American Freedom Riders of the 1950s and 60s felt when they ventured in Klu Klux Klan territory. Remember Selma, Montgomery, and Birmingham. Come here and be ready to go out on a stretcher. A coffin could be next in line should somebody in the PPP decide that the final solution is the best solution. This is really ruff stuff, and not anything taken lightly or written about frivolously. If this early, what about up the road? Or is it down, as in the gutter? The true colors of the PPP are now showing in all their dangerous exhibitions. What was cleverly hidden for decades can’t stay a secret any longer.

For long now, I have informed Guyanese that floods of oil money rechanneled via underhanded arrangements has destroyed the mental capacity of many in the PPP. Visceral reactions to Mohamed the Troublemaker are submitted as evidence. The PNC gets a breather. Mohamed is the new show stealer.
