APNU+AFC promises to make nitrogen a “game changer” for farming

Mr Vinceroy Jordan

Last Updated on Tuesday, 28 January 2025, 21:12 by Writer

Mr Vinceroy Jordan

Shadow Minister of Agriculture, Vinceroy Jordan on Tuesday promised that if the coalition wins the 2025 general and regional elections, it would invest in nitrogen product to increase agricultural production.

“The next coalition government will fast track the production of nitrogen fertilizer in Guyana through direct government investments. We see the local fertilizer industry as a game changer,” he told the National Assembly during his contribution to this year’s National Budget debate.

The natural gas liquids (NGL) plant that is associated with the Wales Gas-to-Energy complex would produce nitrogen for sale.

Mr Jordan said the provision of nitrogen to the agricultural sector would see the reduction of food prices by 25 percent to 30 percent and an increase in the incomes of thousands of farmers by “bringing marginal lands into commercial viability, boosting rural economies and guaranteeing Guyana’s food security.”

He also promised that a new coalition government would reduce the cost of rice production.
