The United States’ (US) Secretary of State, Marco Rubio on Monday again pledged his country’s support to Guyana in the face of Venezuela’s ongoing provocative pressure on its claim to the Essequibo Region.

“The Secretary affirmed the United States’ steadfast support of Guyana’s territorial integrity in the face of Nicolás Maduro and his cronies’ bellicose actions,” Mr Rubio’s spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.

Both the Democratic and Republican-led administrations have supported Guyana’s preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, President Irfaan Ali said he reiterated Guyana’s support to the US in four critical areas: energy, security, democracy, and regional prosperity.

The Secretary of State’s spokesperson said Mr Rubio and Dr Ali spoke Monday to address the crisis of illegal migration and agreed to jointly address this regional imperative and challenge.
