A Bartica resident was shot dead and robbed of a quantity of raw gold that he was transporting to Bartica on behalf of his employer, his brother told Demerara Waves Online News.

The foreman of the mining operation, who fled as the robbers fired shots at him, remained in police custody three days after the incident.

Dead is 24-year old Abrahama Mohammed Khan of Bartica.  His motorcycle has been also stolen and has not yet been recovered. Mohammed is the father of a two-year old son, and his wife is pregnant.

The foreman reportedly told his employer and Khan’s brother that the incident occurred on a road at 16 Miles at about 5:30 Monday afternoon.

A gunshot struck Khan to his neck and he collapsed after which the robbers grabbed the raw gold that was produced by his employer’s mine. The foreman’s account is that he ran off into the bush as the robbers continued firing at him.

The foreman reportedly lost his way and ended up at Sherima where he told persons there what had transpired. The foreman was taken to police at Sherima who contacted their colleagues at Bartica to continue the probe.
