Police say they have arrested two suspected shears-wielding robbers shortly after they lashed two youths and snatched their cash and a cellular phone totalling GYD$80,000.
Investigators are treating the incident as a case of “robbery with violence” carried out at about 12:30 Sunday morning at University of Guyana Access Road.
The victims have been identified as 20-year old Anthony Dharamraj and 18-year old Anisa Issehani of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.
They were robbed of a cellular phone valued GYD$60,000 and GYD$20,000.00 cash by two men, one of whom was armed with a pair of shears.
“Enquiries disclosed that the victims were walking on the Access Public Road when they were attacked, dealt several lashes and robbed of the phone and cash.
The matter was reported and swift action by the police led to the arrest of the men with the stolen items and the shears allegedly used during the commission of the crime,” police said.
The victims were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, treated and sent away.
