Five persons will be charged with the murder of Professor Perry Mars who was found bound and gagged at his Prashad Nagar home last week.
The Director of Public Prosecutionsā Chambers said the recommendation to charge the five with murder was dispatched to police on Monday.
Those expected to appear at the Georgetown Magistratesā Court on Tuesday include two 17 year old girls, one 15 year old male and two other males one of whom is below 18 years old.
The DPP did not find any evidence to support the charging of another male youth.
Mars,75, Ā was found in his study at his residence bound, gagged and beaten to his head on May 12, 2016 by his wife who had returned home after her husband had failed to answer her telephone calls.
The Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum is on record as saying that the suspects were arrested from neighbouring Sophia and several items belonging to Mars were recovered. The items include aĀ sum of cash, a laptop computer, an I-phone and a play station
Prior to retiring, Mars was a professor at African Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Mars had played a major role in developing an international academic exchange project between Africana Studies, the College of Urban Labor and Metropolitan Affairs (CULMA), and the University of Guyana
