Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Indira Anandjit has been sent on leave, even as the Auditor General probes the disappearance of a number of items.
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams did not blame Anandjit for the missing items but said the Permanent Secretary had authorized a number of purchases. “The PS authorised those purchases and the books cannot be found in the ministry, nor the spares and so the investigations are ongoing,” he said.
He said the law books include 17 Commonwealth Law Reports valued more than GYD$2.5 million and about GYD$2 million in computer parts could not be found.
Williams said Anandjit has proceeded on 52 days leave several weeks ago. Acting is Melissa Tucker.
The Auditor General’s investigation dates back to 2013. Anandjit has been Permanent Secretary since July, 2012.
