Footballer on armed robbery charge

Last Updated on Tuesday, 3 November 2015, 20:13 by GxMedia

A 19-year old footballer was one of two persons charged with armed robbery and refused bail.

Jermaine Scott pleaded not guilty to the charge during his arraignment before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman.

Also pleaded not guilty to the charge was 18-year old Shemar Singh of 67 D’Urban Street, Georgetown.

They were remanded to the Georgetown Prison until  November 12, 2015 when they will appear before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan.

Police said on November 1, 2015 at Georgetown, being in the company of others armed with a cutlass, they robbed Christopher Forde of GUY$2,000. They are also accused of robbing Jeremy Jarvis of one haversack, one T-Shirt and one cellular phone with a total value of GUY$31,000.

Defence Lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat said the items were not found on Scott and Singh and the men were not placed on an identification parade. Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick, differed, telling the court that the phone was found in Singh’s person.
