A 46-year old Guyanese man was Saturday arrested at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport allegedly with several kilogrammes of cocaine in his possession, a senior official of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said.
A senior anti-drug agent said four kilogrammes of cocaine were found in false walls of the man’s suitcase, shortly before he was about to board a flight to New York.
The detainee is not considered a frequent-flyer, but he has travelled to the United States about four times since he had been granted an American visitor’s visa.
Investigators said up to late Saturday night, the man was not cooperating.
Cocaine mules have repeatedly used the method of false suitcase walls to smuggle mainly cocaine to the Caribbean and North America. In most instances, they are caught.
