A well-known Hindu spiritual leader died Wednesday in New York, United States of America, according to a spokeswoman for that religious community.Guruji Swami Vidyanandaji Maharaj passed away at age 79.
He was regarded as the spiritual leader and director of the Guyana and United States Sevasharam Sangh.
Swami, according to the spokeswoman, passed away peacefully at Long Shore Hospital from natural causes.
Efforts are being made by the Cove and John Ashram to bring his body to Guyana for cremation.
Final rites will be announced later.
Swami Vidyananda returned to the then British West Indies in 1976 as Guyana’s first ordained Hindu monk of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha.
