New Anglican Church Bishop elected

Last Updated on Thursday, 1 October 2015, 19:58 by GxMedia

Bishop-elect Fr. Charles Davidson.

A United States-based Guyanese priest is the new Anglican Bishop in Guyana, the Diocese here announced Thursday.

He is Fr. Charles Davidson.

Davidson succeeds Bishop Cornell Jerome Moss who died recently.

“The Diocese is pleased to announce that after one round of voting the Elective Assembly elected Fr Charles Davidson, a Guyanese Priest serving in the United States of America as the VIII Diocesan Bishop of Guyana,” said the Diocese in a statement.

The Elective Assembly of the Diocese met on Tuesday September 29, 2015 with the aim of electing a Diocesan Bishop.

Fr Davidson is a graduate of the United Theological College of Jamaica and the Codrington College Barbados among others.

He was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Guyana in June 1977. He served in the Diocese of Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas before moving to the United States of America.

The Diocese extends congratulations to Bishop Elect Fr Charles Davidson and the Church in Guyana and asks your prayers as we go through this transition.

The Archbishop of the West Indies, The Most Reverend John Holder has been advised of the decision taken by the Elective Assembly of Guyana and “we prayerfully await confirmation of the election of Fr. Charles Davidson,” said the Diocese.
