Dr. Vindhya Persaud, the lone PPP MP on the opposition side of the House.

People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) parliamentarians Thursday afternoon walked out of the National Assembly’s Chamber immediately after Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence rose to contribute to the 2015 National Debate.

The reason for the PPPC’s decision was not immediately known, but they exited the Chamber shortly after veteran women’s rights activist Indra Chandrapal completed her 30-minute presentation.

Moments after a meeting by the PPP MPs in their lounge, one of their parliamentarians, Dr Vindhya Persaud, returned to her seat. She was later joined by Dharamkumar Seeraj, the PPP’s spokesman on rice.

The other PPPC employees returned only after Dr. Persaud began her contribution to the debate.
