Guyana’s Land Registrar, Juliet Sattaur has been sent on leave with effect July 1, 2015 to pave the way for a probe, according to Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency Joseph Harmon.

“The Land Registrar has been sent on leave to facilitate an investigation into the Land Registry and certain financial matters at the Land Registry,” he told Demerara Waves Online News.

Sattaur recently resorted to the letter columns of the privately-owned Stabroek News newspaper to defend her integrity and the nature of the work that she does. “I have often said that I do not take a sweet drink, a fried rice or knock glasses with anyone, therefore I am not friends with anyone, and I like it that way. I was put here to do a job and I know I do it well, regardless of what others say,” she said.

As far back as 2009, lawyers, for example from Berbice, had complained that due to her approach the processing of matters takes a very long time.
